An osteopath seeks to support a persons health by enhancing their ability to adapt and adjust physically, in a way that is tailored to that individuals needs. This is done through gentle, skilful use of manual therapy, including massage, fascial (connective tissue) re-balancing, spinal adjustments and knowledge applied to a persons condition(s).
An osteopath will also provide advice directed at enhancing the overall health and function of the individual that will be useful during and after treatment.
Typically, a first consultation lasts 30 mins. This will consist of a detailed medical case history being taken, a physical examination being performed, followed by Osteopathic treatment. Follow up treatments (if required) also last 30 mins.
All osteopaths in the UK are regulated by the General Osteopathic Council (GOsC). For more information, click here to visit the website.
